Week 2: Egg McMuffin

Okay.... Again I am late. I know I said I was going to do Food Friday. I promise this upcoming week I will have it out first thing Friday Morning!!

So Here is my Food. I tried my hands at making Egg McMuffins I went from this recipe.

1. You bake your eggs for 25 minutes... I think it could probably be less. The recipe or guideline said to use a wider cupcake pan or a whoopie pan. I wasn't about to buy a new pan just to try it out. If you  had one of those pans... use that.

2. Cook Sausage according to directions.

3. After the first batch... I realized it made mine too tall. You can't really eat them unless you squish them.

4. So for the next batch I cut everything in half and put them on the english muffin like that. I covered it in cheese and put in the oven. It was much better that way for me. The melted cheddar held all the food together.

All together they were pretty good. It is nice to have some made up breakfast in the freezer.

Easy Cheesy Potato Soup

Hey All!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Today I thought I would share one of my favorite recipes. Easy Cheesy Potato Soup! It is a great soup for a cold and blustery day.

Cheesy Potato Soup

I peel and chop potatoes to fill up half the pot. You want them chopped no bigger than like 1inch chunks. You want to fill the pot with water about 1 inch above the potatoes. Add salt to the water. (Also make sure you cook potatoes with lid on because it will cook quicker and you won't lose as much water)

In a pan, chop about half pound bacon, 1 green bell pepper and 1 Large onion. Cook till bacon is done and onion and bell pepper are sauteed.

The other half I chop up small and fry it up for topping.

Once potatoes are cooked. Do NOT Drain! Add the bacon, onion and bell pepper mixture to the water. Stir it all up. ( I usually put the bacon mixture in it a little before the potatoes are cooked so hopefully it will soak up that flavor. I don't know if that works but that is what I do lol)

From here it kinda is up to you on how much cheese you use. We use a lot but I also have a huge pot so I make a little more than a standard pot but I use a whole block of Velveeta, 1 bag of shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese. ( make sure you chop the Velveeta in small chunks. It will melt better) 1 T. of mustard. Add salt, pepper and garlic powder. Once the cheese is in the pot make sure you keep stirring. It will stick to the bottom! The more you stir the better the potatoes will get smaller. You don't want huge chunks of potatoes. Just small chunks.

Once all the cheese is melted you are done. Serve it up. I usually just top it with bacon, Shredded cheese and some green onions.

Enjoy!!!

favorite things

So everybody has products that they love, right?

Ones that you are completely committed to. Well, here are a few of them I really enjoy.

1. Lanolin - I am aware that this is for your sore nips due to breastfeeding. Well, I am here to tell you that it has another purpose. For your LIPS!!! Seriously, put it on before you go to bed and by morning...BAM! Soft, kissable lips.

2. Baby Oil - Use it on your legs and feet after your shower. Super silky legs and soft feet.

3. Whitening Booster - Okay. I LOVE this stuff. What makes any lip color look better? Well, pearly white teeth of course. This stuff is under $5 and it make a difference!! Check it Out!

4. Clinique Spot Healing Gel - I'll be honest every now and then I break out. Not bad, but enough for it to bother me. I am huge fan of Clinique 3-step program. So with the spot gel. I will wash my face, toner, spot gel and then lotion. By the next day it is usually gone or so much better that it isn't even noticeable.

5. A pretty smile is important to me. I think I've read somewhere that your smile and your eyes are the first thing people notice. So I love Crest 3Dwhite toothpaste and mouthwash. I've already told you how much I love the whitening booster.

Those are a few of my favorite things. Do you have any favorite things?

High Five for Friday 1/4

Hey All! This is my first High 5 for Friday! I have so much to be excited & thankful for but at this moment these are what is coming to mind!

One - My cheap Bath & Body Works clearance candle. Ohmylanta does it smell good!!

Two - Since the new year I have been really getting back on track with my devotions. This week both devotionals that I'm doing they have had a common theme. Do not be afraid. I think God is trying to tell me something.

Three - This teether... is my life saver right now. Poor lil monster has sore little gums. This one helps his gums and entertains him for a bit.

Four - I ordered my first set of Cloth Diapers. They haven't arrived yet but I am excited that I have finally took a leap of faith.

Five - Tazo Green Tea. It has to be this brand!!! It is the best, SO good! I finally figured out how to make my own at home that actually tastes better than Starbucks!!

My week has been Fantastic. How was yours? Hope it was ahhhhmazing! :)

Week 1: Acorn/Butternut Squash Soup

As part of my New Years Resolution I want to make a new recipe every week. With that being said I am going to make every Friday...(wait for it)... Food Friday! I know I am so clever.

For this week I made an Acorn and Butternut Squash Soup. I found the recipe here but I did change it a little bit.

I decided to make this recipe just because I actually had all the ingredients on hand. We had never had acorn or butternut squash before. So why not give it a try, right?

I did cut this recipe in half and added about 1 1/2 t. of Garlic, 1-2 T. of cayenne pepper, and 1/2 t. of paprika. Also, I did not use a sweet onion just a regular onion.

This is not a soup that would be a full meal by itself. It is better to be paired with something. I would suggest maybe a grilled cheese or a panini. Something crunchy.

Overall, it was pretty good. The Hubby loved it. I thought it was okay. I thought it had a weird texture but tasted good.

*Sorry this is a bad picture... it was the leftovers.

Furry Children

Okay... Strange Confession. I haven't used the restroom by myself since late 2009. Why? You may be asking... well I will tell you. My Furry Children...they follow me everywhere. Oh well. I love them to pieces.

I have had my first dog since then. Harold the Hound. You can clearly tell he is a Bassett. He beyond a doubt is the most handsome dog ever, right? Then in 2011, Harold got a sister my little Mabel Mae she is a Border Collie Terrier mix. She is my little shadow. She follows me everywhere!! She even sleeps above my head at night in between the pillows and the wall. Just watching and protecting.  Well, here are some pictures of my furry children. I'm sure you will be seeing more of them...

Baby Food

Good Afternoon! I hope y'all are having a wonderful Wednesday.

I never thought I would be excited about baby food but here I am excited about baby food. Crazy?! How'd did this crazy party girl turn into a mom that gets excited about home-made baby food? I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the cutest little monster on the face on the planet...Anyways... I digress.

SO... I make my own baby food and it is really awesome! I came upon a this site that gives you every step and know how to do it. Why not, right? I love to cook... it can't be that hard and it is totally easy. Easy peezy lemon squeezy.

Pros: Easy,Saves $, Good for monster
Cons: a little messy (that could just be me... I seriously am the messiest cook on the face of the planet)

Steps:
     1. Get Pears, cutting board, knife, Steam basket
     2. Cut pears. Make sure you get all the seeds out. Did you know if you cut on the angle like that after you quarter it... it will cut the whole seeds and hard part out? I know that sounds pretty simple but I always hated coring fruit until I saw Rachel Ray do it like this once.
     3. Chop pears.
     4. Watch out for sneaky husbands...

     5. I steamed the pears because I left the skins on. You don't have to steam them if you peel the pears. Then put in a blender or a food processor and blend away, my friend.
     6. Freeze. I bought the rubbery silicone ice trays from a local kitchen supply store. They were a 2/pack for $5. This ice tray makes 15 ice cubes which hold about 1 ounce each. Score. I am aware these are a little/ a lot on the brown side. It was because I left the skins on the pears and then steamed them. Also, they are on the runny side so I probably will have to add cereal to them to thicken them up a tad.

Not including freezing time this probably took me MAX 30 minutes.

I made roughly 24 oz of food. I also did not cook all the pears I bought. I bought a 3 lb bag of pears for 4.99. So just for the amount of food I made it comes to about .21 cents an ounce. Technically I know it is should be less because we ate some of the pears. Either way it sounds pretty good to me. The cheapest baby food I could find around here is around $1 for a 2/pk and it just gets more expensive.

I would highly suggest doing some research on making your own baby food and if it may be something you are into. Do it!

happy new year!!!

hey all! Did you have a fantabulous new years eve? I know I did. we spent the evening eating reuben's and french fries. I know I am way behind the times but we just watched Dark Knight Rises. HOLY COW!!! I'm sure most people have seen it already but if you haven't... DO IT!
So... do you guys do new years resolutions? I usually do but they never get finished so this year I'm doing things a little different. Introducing the 5 things! 5 things you are happy/excited/proud/thankful of last year and 5 things that you are looking forward to or goals for the new year!

 2012
  1. Clearly, my baby boy. I can't believe I became a mom. I'm a mom. It is still weird to think about for me. Anyways, he is awesome. My life is totally better with him in it!
  2. I am thankful that I was able to and still continue to breastfeed him. I am now in a minority for exclusively breastfeeding for 6 months. It was hard in the beginning but we stuck to it and we made it thus far. I am proud to say he hasn't had ANY formula once! (I am not a breastfeeding crazy lady. As long as you feed you kid appropriate food then I don't care. Yes, breast milk is better but do what you gotta do.) Can I get an amen on how much moolah we saved?! $$$$
  3. I am thankful for my crazy amazing family and friends. With special emphasis on my fantastic hubster. It is amazing to find someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with. It is even more amazing when that person is your best friend. As lame as it sounds, He completes me. He truly is my better half. He supports, encourages, loves, spoils me when I don't deserve it. I could go on and on about how he is the best but I am just thankful God brought us together!
  4. My relationship with God has grown by leaps and bounds. I still have a very long way to go. I will never ever deserve his love but he loves me anyway. That's the beauty of it...He loves us all even though we don't deserve it.
  5.  I am happy/excited/thankful/proud about this little ole blog. I know it isn't much now but it will be. I have been so afraid of doing anything like this. Afraid people would laugh at me, afraid I would fail, and afraid of embarrassment. Yes, I am still afraid but I will not live in fear any longer!

2013

  1. I'm excited that I've started to make my own baby food and share that with y'all. I'm also nervous/excited to start the cloth diapering adventure!
  2. I want to cook more. Goal is to make a new recipe every week or 4-5 a month.
  3. Healthy. I'm not going to vow to workout all the time and only eat salads. I just want to be able to be more fit. To be able to chase my son when the time comes and not be tired.
  4. Have more date nights with my hubby.
  5. Be more pretty. Just put a little more attention into myself. It is only cute to wear yoga pants and a dirty tshirt so often... not everyday. =/ Goal: Fix hair, makeup, real clothes (at least in public)

So that's my 5&5. Whats yours?!
