He picked YOU!!!!!

Alright, I am completely copying this from my Joyce Meyer's devotional on YouVersion. It really struck a chord with me...maybe just maybe it will do something for you too.

You Can't Impose on God

Today, I want to remind you of something I consider to be important to your well-being: You are no surprise to God. He knew what He was getting when He chose you, just as He knew what He was getting when He chose me.

The Bible says God actually picked us out for Himself as His own! You didn't just randomly show up one day. And God hasn't decided to merely tolerate you.

You can't bother God because He picked you...you can't impose on Him! He's not rolling His eyes when you have a problem. Instead, He'll always remind you how far you have come, how well you are doing, how precious you are in His sight, and how much He loves you.

God already knew your weaknesses, every flaw you would have, every time you would fail, and He still said "I want you." Ephesians 1:5 declares He foreordained you to be adopted as His own. God is your daddy! With Him on your side, things are bound to work out all right in the end.

Prayer Starter: God, Your love amazes me. As my Father, You chose me before the world was ever created. No matter how flawed I may be, I know that You still want me. Thank You for Your goodness!

How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He's the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. (Ephesians 1:3-6 MSG)

This means so much to me. He knew I would be a handful. He knew I would screw up more times than I'd like to say. He picked me and you. We are special to him.

I am sure there are days that you feel that you don't matter or you useless. Believe me when I say I have been there! Just hold on to this truth that God... the God that made the whole universe and all the living creatures...MADE YOU because you are special to him. You really are the apple of his eyes.

Have a goodin' y'all!!! Remember how special YOU are!
(Okay...I'm aware that goodin' isn't a word. Actually typing out have a good one y'all just seemed like too much work. Even though I just did... :) That is how I would say it anyway.)

Sunday Social 1/27

Sunday Social

 Good Morning!!!!

Today, I am linking up for another Sunday Social graciously hosted by Neely & Ashley!!

Away we go.

What is your ideal way to relax:
 - In my Dream World I would be having a glass glasses of wine, in a hammock at the beach, with no mosquito's, and a nice ocean breeze.
 - Reality. Pedicure and a book. If I'm lucky some wine.

Where is your favorite place to be:
 - My Kitchen (when it is clean) I like being there because I can control everything there. I've got it all taken care of.

Who do you consider your biggest role model:
 - I don't know if I just have one. I pick up lots a little things from lots of different people.

What does your life look like in 3 years?
 - Hopefully, more kiddos running around. I am pro at this blogging thing. Nice house with a NICE backyard. Following my dream of staying at home and selling stuff on Etsy. Completely organized. Healthy too.

If you could go back and change one decision what would it be?
 - Not quiting college.

What is your biggest accomplishment in life thus far?
 - My husband and son. Also, taking a huge leap of faith and moving 12 hours away from everything we knew and loved to do this all alone.

Hope y'all start your week off great!!!

So I made my first Trifle dish. A strawberry trifle! MMMMmmmmm..... I found the recipe here. I did use vanilla pudding instead of custard.

Honey-Do

Everybody has a Honey-Do List, right? Especially since Pinterest came along.

My wonderful husband does have a love/hate relationship with Pinterest. I always have something for him to do... Always. I am so blessed to be married to not only the best husband ever but also to be married to a genuine certified Journeymen Carpenter. He is/was a gosh darn professional. He no longer does it as his primary profession but now he actually gets to do it for wants and needs. As in my wants and needs. :) Oh  yeah... I'm a lucky girl.

To prove to you how awesome he is take a look at this amazing boat shelf/wine rack. There are plenty of other things but this is my favorite. If you look on the shelves underneath the stain you can see little love notes he left for me... Isn't he sweet?!

*This picture does not do it justice. It seriously is beautiful and amazing.

Honey-Do List

I am asking for a jewelry organizer like this but with a smaller necklace holder and ring holder. I don't need that but I need quite a bit of earring and bracelet holders. Also it will be wall mount. Oh and it will have my magic mirror on the front... I will explain that on a different post. It really is magic.
You can buy this jewelry organizer here.

An Office in a chest. How clever!! Martha shows how you to make an existing chest into an office chest but Mo will be making the chest as well. #winning

A makeup organizer/holder. This is for the both of us. We both hate when all my make up and hair products clutter the counter. So this way it makes it look all neat and tidy and I can easily get to it all.

Hair product holder. Again, so it won't be on the counter. I hate spending money on nice products and then I throw it under the sink to never be found again. I like access to all my stuff. I need to see it all to decide. Check out this bathroom, I love it!!

This is just the beginning of my Honey-Do List. Heaven help us when we actually own a house. Mo will be busy FOR-EV-ER!!!! (sandlot reference, anybody?)

What things are on your Honey-Do List or are you doing it yourself?

Birchbox

Have I told you (lately that I love you) that I love things that are tiny i.e. samples or travel size things? I also love things in bulk. Love me a trip to Sam's.

...anyways...

With my love of samples and beauty products. I was absolutely thrilled when I discovered the Birchbox.

I stumbled upon it at The Small Things Blog. I received my very first Birchbox on Christmas Eve. How fitting, huh? It was awesome. I took no pictures because I tore into it like a crazy kid. If you are unaware of what is a Birchbox. Let me tell you of the pure genius that is the Birchbox. You pay 10 bucks a month with free shipping and they send you higher end beauty samples. I really like it because I live in a small town with no nice makeup places. If I want higher end I have to travel 2 1/2 hours. Lets be real... If I have to drive that long with a baby I don't have time for samples or whatever else. I have to be on a mission.

So with the Birchbox I am able to try it out and then if I like it just order it online through Birchbox and I get points for my purchase. Score!!!

Seriously, why didn't I think of this?!

So here is what is in my January Birchbox!!!

I'll update once I've tried it all!!!

Update: I tried the Nectar Thermique and I am totally impressed. It's a leave in conditioner and it is aaaahhhhhmazing. I washed my hair like normal and used only half of the sample. I air dried my hair and I'm not going to lie to you fine folks. My hair feels like silk. My Lord I could run my fingers through it all the time.

Week 3: Tortellini Turkey Soup

So, the weather is back to being chilly. A high of 59!!! Yikes!!! (I am aware that really isn't cold but now that we live in the deep south and I am a huge pansy... It is cold now.)

Soup... it is this week.

The recipe I was going to make is here. Went to Publix and there was no Gnocchi to be found... So I substituted Tortellini instead. Oh yeah I used Turkey instead of Chicken. I'm going to be honest here... I never use a recipe all the way. I'm one of THOSE. Add a little of this or a little of that. I'm going to use this instead. So yeah. This would be a wonderful soup for leftover Turkey after Thanksgiving!!!

Here is MY made up version of this recipe.

  • 4 stalks of celery; diced
  • 1 Large onion; diced
  • 3 Large Carrots; I tried to do this... but its hard. I need practice
  • 3 clove of Garlic... Next time I'd use 4. I like Garlic; minced
  • 4 T. of Butter
  • 1/4 C. Flour
  • 1 Qt. Half and Half
  • 1-2 Cups shredded turkey or chicken ( I had turkey on hand)
  • 1 Box of Chicken/Vegetable Stock
  • 3 lb bag of Frozen Cheese Tortellini
  • A huge heaping Handful of fresh spinach; slightly chopped
  • S&P...and whatever other seasonings you'd like

Put your veggies in a pot with the butter and saute until they are soft. Add flour and make roux, add half & half. Let heat back up. Add meat and stock. Let heat back up. Then add frozen tortellini. Let Cook. Add spinach at the end. Let cook for maybe 15-20 minutes longer to thicken up...

Ta-Da!! How easy was that? Serve it up with some crunchy bread for dipping and wiping the bowl clean and you got yourself a meal!!

Enjoy!

^ Here is the heart shaped carrots... not great but they did end up kinda cute. Right?

Finished Product!!! Seriously my mouth is watering it is Soooo good!!!

High Five for Friday!!!

Do you ever have weeks when you look back and wonder what the heck you did with it? Well, it was one of those weeks here. I didn't do really anything except float through all the days.

So here is my attempt to give you the highlights of this week!

1. We have received and started using our new Charlie Banana Cloth diapers. We are officially semi part-time cloth diapering. Can I get what-what?! (I'm like 57% sure that people said that... If not i totally made that up. Oh well)

2. Minute Maid Fruit Punch. I'm pretty sure an angel made this stuff. This is one of those things that I used to get on special occasions as a kid and now I'm an adult so I can get it anytime I want. It just makes me happy, happy, happy!

3. I'm following through with my simple New Years resolution of making a new recipe/meal every week. This week was a success. Everybody liked it. Which really just means me and Mo. Post to come...HERE

4. I had a dream about my Papaw the other day. He's been gone for over 5 years now. In my dream I was just thanking him for all he's done for me. It was nice to see him. I know it was a dream but it felt real.

5. Mo has something planned for our 5 year dating/day we met anniversary in a few weeks. It's a surprise. Eeeeekkkk!!! I know we're married but we are going to celebrate our dating one because it's a milestone year. I'm sure you'll see a post about it!!!

Did y'all have a more productive week than me? Hope it was a glorious!!!!!!

Mental Block

This is going to be kinda rambley. Do you ever have big plans but you give up before you even start?

I do. All the freaking time. So frustrating.

I have/had big plans for my life. Or just for this simple little blog. Yet, I always stop myself.

I'm so tired of being afraid of failure or doing something stupid, that I don't fo anything at all. All I am doing is hurting myself.

Not anymore. I'm going to write posts even if they may be lame. I'm going to put myself out there. If I don't how else will I learn?

ahhhh...

When you have a bad day or when you are in a sour mood where do you go? What do you do? Who do you talk to?

I like to think of good memories. I took this picture on a cruise. Isn't it beautiful? It was the sunrise in the middle of the ocean somewhere.  I think it is a great reminder that each day is beautiful. You may have had a terrible day yesterday but in the morning is a new day.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. "So don't worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today.

Week 2: Egg McMuffin

Okay.... Again I am late. I know I said I was going to do Food Friday. I promise this upcoming week I will have it out first thing Friday Morning!!

So Here is my Food. I tried my hands at making Egg McMuffins I went from this recipe.

1. You bake your eggs for 25 minutes... I think it could probably be less. The recipe or guideline said to use a wider cupcake pan or a whoopie pan. I wasn't about to buy a new pan just to try it out. If you  had one of those pans... use that.

2. Cook Sausage according to directions.

3. After the first batch... I realized it made mine too tall. You can't really eat them unless you squish them.

4. So for the next batch I cut everything in half and put them on the english muffin like that. I covered it in cheese and put in the oven. It was much better that way for me. The melted cheddar held all the food together.

All together they were pretty good. It is nice to have some made up breakfast in the freezer.

TV

Okay I am not a big tv watcher unless it is already on. We only own one tv and it is in the living room. We will not be putting a tv in our bedroom or our sons bedroom. I just feel it isn't necessary. BUT. A huge but... I have two shows that I absolutely adore.

1. Once Upon a Time - oh my gosh!!! This show is SO good!!! It is so addicting! It is in its second season and I have been watching it since the beginning. The first season is on Netflix. If you haven't watched any of it yet. I highly recommend it watch all of it. Amazing!!!! Sundays @ 8 on ABC!

2. The Biggest Loser - Okay. Jillian is finally back. Thank the Lord. I seriously love all the trainers now. Everybody knows what this show is about. I just love that it is so inspiring. Every time I watch it it makes me want to get up an get moving. Which is always a good thing. Mondays @ 8 on NBC!

Check these shows out. You won't be disappointed! What do you like to watch on the ole boob tube?

Easy Cheesy Potato Soup

Hey All!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Today I thought I would share one of my favorite recipes. Easy Cheesy Potato Soup! It is a great soup for a cold and blustery day.

Cheesy Potato Soup

I peel and chop potatoes to fill up half the pot. You want them chopped no bigger than like 1inch chunks. You want to fill the pot with water about 1 inch above the potatoes. Add salt to the water. (Also make sure you cook potatoes with lid on because it will cook quicker and you won't lose as much water)

In a pan, chop about half pound bacon, 1 green bell pepper and 1 Large onion. Cook till bacon is done and onion and bell pepper are sauteed.

The other half I chop up small and fry it up for topping.

Once potatoes are cooked. Do NOT Drain! Add the bacon, onion and bell pepper mixture to the water. Stir it all up. ( I usually put the bacon mixture in it a little before the potatoes are cooked so hopefully it will soak up that flavor. I don't know if that works but that is what I do lol)

From here it kinda is up to you on how much cheese you use. We use a lot but I also have a huge pot so I make a little more than a standard pot but I use a whole block of Velveeta, 1 bag of shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese. ( make sure you chop the Velveeta in small chunks. It will melt better) 1 T. of mustard. Add salt, pepper and garlic powder. Once the cheese is in the pot make sure you keep stirring. It will stick to the bottom! The more you stir the better the potatoes will get smaller. You don't want huge chunks of potatoes. Just small chunks.

Once all the cheese is melted you are done. Serve it up. I usually just top it with bacon, Shredded cheese and some green onions.

Enjoy!!!

favorite things

So everybody has products that they love, right?

Ones that you are completely committed to. Well, here are a few of them I really enjoy.

1. Lanolin - I am aware that this is for your sore nips due to breastfeeding. Well, I am here to tell you that it has another purpose. For your LIPS!!! Seriously, put it on before you go to bed and by morning...BAM! Soft, kissable lips.

2. Baby Oil - Use it on your legs and feet after your shower. Super silky legs and soft feet.

3. Whitening Booster - Okay. I LOVE this stuff. What makes any lip color look better? Well, pearly white teeth of course. This stuff is under $5 and it make a difference!! Check it Out!

4. Clinique Spot Healing Gel - I'll be honest every now and then I break out. Not bad, but enough for it to bother me. I am huge fan of Clinique 3-step program. So with the spot gel. I will wash my face, toner, spot gel and then lotion. By the next day it is usually gone or so much better that it isn't even noticeable.

5. A pretty smile is important to me. I think I've read somewhere that your smile and your eyes are the first thing people notice. So I love Crest 3Dwhite toothpaste and mouthwash. I've already told you how much I love the whitening booster.

Those are a few of my favorite things. Do you have any favorite things?

High Five for Friday 1/4

Hey All! This is my first High 5 for Friday! I have so much to be excited & thankful for but at this moment these are what is coming to mind!

One - My cheap Bath & Body Works clearance candle. Ohmylanta does it smell good!!

Two - Since the new year I have been really getting back on track with my devotions. This week both devotionals that I'm doing they have had a common theme. Do not be afraid. I think God is trying to tell me something.

Three - This teether... is my life saver right now. Poor lil monster has sore little gums. This one helps his gums and entertains him for a bit.

Four - I ordered my first set of Cloth Diapers. They haven't arrived yet but I am excited that I have finally took a leap of faith.

Five - Tazo Green Tea. It has to be this brand!!! It is the best, SO good! I finally figured out how to make my own at home that actually tastes better than Starbucks!!

My week has been Fantastic. How was yours? Hope it was ahhhhmazing! :)

Week 1: Acorn/Butternut Squash Soup

As part of my New Years Resolution I want to make a new recipe every week. With that being said I am going to make every Friday...(wait for it)... Food Friday! I know I am so clever.

For this week I made an Acorn and Butternut Squash Soup. I found the recipe here but I did change it a little bit.

I decided to make this recipe just because I actually had all the ingredients on hand. We had never had acorn or butternut squash before. So why not give it a try, right?

I did cut this recipe in half and added about 1 1/2 t. of Garlic, 1-2 T. of cayenne pepper, and 1/2 t. of paprika. Also, I did not use a sweet onion just a regular onion.

This is not a soup that would be a full meal by itself. It is better to be paired with something. I would suggest maybe a grilled cheese or a panini. Something crunchy.

Overall, it was pretty good. The Hubby loved it. I thought it was okay. I thought it had a weird texture but tasted good.

*Sorry this is a bad picture... it was the leftovers.

Furry Children

Okay... Strange Confession. I haven't used the restroom by myself since late 2009. Why? You may be asking... well I will tell you. My Furry Children...they follow me everywhere. Oh well. I love them to pieces.

I have had my first dog since then. Harold the Hound. You can clearly tell he is a Bassett. He beyond a doubt is the most handsome dog ever, right? Then in 2011, Harold got a sister my little Mabel Mae she is a Border Collie Terrier mix. She is my little shadow. She follows me everywhere!! She even sleeps above my head at night in between the pillows and the wall. Just watching and protecting.  Well, here are some pictures of my furry children. I'm sure you will be seeing more of them...

Baby Food

Good Afternoon! I hope y'all are having a wonderful Wednesday.

I never thought I would be excited about baby food but here I am excited about baby food. Crazy?! How'd did this crazy party girl turn into a mom that gets excited about home-made baby food? I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the cutest little monster on the face on the planet...Anyways... I digress.

SO... I make my own baby food and it is really awesome! I came upon a this site that gives you every step and know how to do it. Why not, right? I love to cook... it can't be that hard and it is totally easy. Easy peezy lemon squeezy.

Pros: Easy,Saves $, Good for monster
Cons: a little messy (that could just be me... I seriously am the messiest cook on the face of the planet)

Steps:
     1. Get Pears, cutting board, knife, Steam basket
     2. Cut pears. Make sure you get all the seeds out. Did you know if you cut on the angle like that after you quarter it... it will cut the whole seeds and hard part out? I know that sounds pretty simple but I always hated coring fruit until I saw Rachel Ray do it like this once.
     3. Chop pears.
     4. Watch out for sneaky husbands...

     5. I steamed the pears because I left the skins on. You don't have to steam them if you peel the pears. Then put in a blender or a food processor and blend away, my friend.
     6. Freeze. I bought the rubbery silicone ice trays from a local kitchen supply store. They were a 2/pack for $5. This ice tray makes 15 ice cubes which hold about 1 ounce each. Score. I am aware these are a little/ a lot on the brown side. It was because I left the skins on the pears and then steamed them. Also, they are on the runny side so I probably will have to add cereal to them to thicken them up a tad.

Not including freezing time this probably took me MAX 30 minutes.

I made roughly 24 oz of food. I also did not cook all the pears I bought. I bought a 3 lb bag of pears for 4.99. So just for the amount of food I made it comes to about .21 cents an ounce. Technically I know it is should be less because we ate some of the pears. Either way it sounds pretty good to me. The cheapest baby food I could find around here is around $1 for a 2/pk and it just gets more expensive.

I would highly suggest doing some research on making your own baby food and if it may be something you are into. Do it!

happy new year!!!

hey all! Did you have a fantabulous new years eve? I know I did. we spent the evening eating reuben's and french fries. I know I am way behind the times but we just watched Dark Knight Rises. HOLY COW!!! I'm sure most people have seen it already but if you haven't... DO IT!
So... do you guys do new years resolutions? I usually do but they never get finished so this year I'm doing things a little different. Introducing the 5 things! 5 things you are happy/excited/proud/thankful of last year and 5 things that you are looking forward to or goals for the new year!

 2012
  1. Clearly, my baby boy. I can't believe I became a mom. I'm a mom. It is still weird to think about for me. Anyways, he is awesome. My life is totally better with him in it!
  2. I am thankful that I was able to and still continue to breastfeed him. I am now in a minority for exclusively breastfeeding for 6 months. It was hard in the beginning but we stuck to it and we made it thus far. I am proud to say he hasn't had ANY formula once! (I am not a breastfeeding crazy lady. As long as you feed you kid appropriate food then I don't care. Yes, breast milk is better but do what you gotta do.) Can I get an amen on how much moolah we saved?! $$$$
  3. I am thankful for my crazy amazing family and friends. With special emphasis on my fantastic hubster. It is amazing to find someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with. It is even more amazing when that person is your best friend. As lame as it sounds, He completes me. He truly is my better half. He supports, encourages, loves, spoils me when I don't deserve it. I could go on and on about how he is the best but I am just thankful God brought us together!
  4. My relationship with God has grown by leaps and bounds. I still have a very long way to go. I will never ever deserve his love but he loves me anyway. That's the beauty of it...He loves us all even though we don't deserve it.
  5.  I am happy/excited/thankful/proud about this little ole blog. I know it isn't much now but it will be. I have been so afraid of doing anything like this. Afraid people would laugh at me, afraid I would fail, and afraid of embarrassment. Yes, I am still afraid but I will not live in fear any longer!

2013

  1. I'm excited that I've started to make my own baby food and share that with y'all. I'm also nervous/excited to start the cloth diapering adventure!
  2. I want to cook more. Goal is to make a new recipe every week or 4-5 a month.
  3. Healthy. I'm not going to vow to workout all the time and only eat salads. I just want to be able to be more fit. To be able to chase my son when the time comes and not be tired.
  4. Have more date nights with my hubby.
  5. Be more pretty. Just put a little more attention into myself. It is only cute to wear yoga pants and a dirty tshirt so often... not everyday. =/ Goal: Fix hair, makeup, real clothes (at least in public)

So that's my 5&5. Whats yours?!
